Fitness
Click here to take a Virtual Tour of our Fitness Center.
The Scandinavian Living Center is designed to encourage physical fitness. For example, residents can walk around the inside perimeter of the building in any weather (thirteen times around is a mile).
In addition, we have a strong fitness program. The Fitness Room features a wide range of Keiser Equipment - the optimal tools for physical well-being and longevity.
Many of our residents participate in a healthy exercise program individually created by our Certified Fitness Trainer, Char Anderson. Private sessions are available to the community by contacting Char at charpt214@yahoo.com
Participation in an exercise program is preventative medicine for aging. It promotes longevity, maintains independence, prevents falls, and improves balance and posture.
According to Char, "The Fitness Center is for everyone. I can always find a variety of exercises with different levels of fitness to help improve daily living skills of our residents."
Morning Stretch
Held in a group setting twice a week, Morning Stretch is a seated exercise routine. It consists of basic movements that promote flexibility and increased range of motion.
Chair Yoga
This is so easy that it can be done by most people of any age or physical condition. It includes relaxation for body and mind as well as gentle stretches to release tension from various areas of the body. Participants go at their own pace and do only what feels comfortable. Some of the benefits of yoga include an increase in alertness, balance, breathing, concentration, coordination, energy, endurance, flexibility and focus. It has been known to improve memory, inner strength, self-confidence and tranquility.
Massage Therapy
A Massachusetts licensed massage therapist currently comes in once a month to give complementary seated massages to the residents. In addition, longer, private sessions can be scheduled for a fee for residents and the outside community.
Physical Therapy
It is now possible for residents to receive physical therapy services right at the Scandinavian Living Center. Tim Dreher and Associates, licensed therapists, offer therapy at the Center to the residents and to anyone from the surrounding community. Most major insurances are accepted.
